The
Caribbean Islands, also known as the West Indies, are comprised of
more than 7,000 islands, islets and reefs. All the islands in the
West Indies are blessed with hot tropical weather, friendly natives
and white sand beaches. However, each island offers a distinct
character and a unique vacation experience. What are the major
islands in the Caribbean?
Jamaica
Jamaica is the largest
English-speaking island in the West Indies. Its total population is
2,652,689. Major industries
here are tourism, followed by mining, agriculture and manufacturing.
Weather in the islands is tropical, which means it is hot most of
the year around, especially during daytime.
When looking for a
place to party, Jamaica is the perfect island to visit during a
Caribbean cruise. Sunsets are beautiful, and all night parties seem
to happen every night. The Jamaican streets are often filled with
reggae music and rum! Pretty much heaven for party lovers, huh?
St.
Lucia
St. Lucia is the perfect
honeymoon spot, because of its beautiful landscapes, beautiful
sunsets, white sand beaches and the overall romantic spirit of the
island. St. Lucia is perfect for outdoor activities, such as hiking.
At night, you can party the night away with St. Lucia natives and
fellow tourists.
Barbados
Barbados is a
perfect vacation getaway no matter your budget or style. For the
best golfing experience, visit Barbados. Barbados has the best
resorts and golf courses in the West Indies, and playing golf can be
quite a challenge here because of its different type of grass and
the presence of ocean breeze. Barbados also has huge museums and
many botanical gardens to enhance your knowledge.
St.
Martin
Get a taste of
European culture by visiting St. Martin. It has a unique fusion of
French, Dutch and Caribbean culture in its cuisine. St. Martin is
known as the 'dining capital of the Caribbean'.
Antigua and
Barbuda
Antigua and Barbuda
was explored by Christopher Columbus and became a British colony
soon after. Tourism and financial services are the major industries
in the country. The way of life in the islands is unsurprisingly
governed by water. The islands are also home to many rare animal
species, like wild deer, birds, and insects.
Trinidad and
Tobago
Trinidad and Tobago consists of two islands. The
islands are known for their rich natural resources, because of this,
almost every western European colonial power during the Exploration
Period has fought to have it in their possession. It is home to one
of the best and most extravagant carnival in the world, which is
celebrated in late of February. Liming, cricket, limbo dancing and
calypso are popular activities in Trinidad and Tobago.
